1) Marina Beach
Marina Beach is the second largest beach in the world. Extended across 13km this is one of the most beautiful beaches in India. One can sit here and probably sunbath and make sandcastles or go for a picnic with their family. Or you can go just enjoy in the merry go rounds and souvenirs. It is said that it sees 30,000 visitors per day. People say it looks like the sandy white shores extend up to infinity. The beach is full of serene and breathtaking views. One can enjoy the lovely sunsets here. It looks like the sun just disappears in the sea. One can have an awestruck and jaw-dropping here.
2) Marundeeswarar Temple
Dedicated to Lord Marundeeswarar (the lord of medicine) this temple was built during the 7th century by the Saivite Saints Nayanars (Saivite Saints), Tirugnana Sambandar, and Appar and was later expanded by the Chola kingdom. One can clearly see glimpses of the Dravidian architecture here. It is said that people usually visit this temple to pray to get rid of their diseases and life problems. It is said that something is magical about this place like people usually heal before they’re supposed to. They often use prasadam here is a mixture of sacred ash, water, and milk which is believed to cure any ailments. One should One shouldn’t miss out on this temple.
3) Connemara Public Library
Inaugurated in the year 1896. Connemara Public Library is ole of the biggest library in India. The Connemara Public Library is one of the four national depository libraries of the country and hence, it receives copies of all books and other texts published in India. It dates back up to 100 years so one can find old publications as well as new publications here. It is a heaven for bookworms. One can find books, textbooks, newspapers, periodicals, encyclopedias you name it and you’ll find it. This library has over 6 lakh books, a video room, a periodical room, a reference room, etc. It is the spot every book lover should visit.
4] Vivekananda House
Vivekananda house is a famous pilgrimage spot or like a shrine for Vivekananda. One can find Swamis belongings here as well as the places we used to stay and hang out in. This building is a two-storey building that was built in 1877 and has traces of English architecture. One can find here places where he dined, whereby played with kids, the fireplace where he cooked, etc. Swamis bedroom is now converted into a safe ace where one can meditate and find peace. People usually visit this place to get a taste of Swami’s life and gain inspiration in their life. Because of all these reasons, this is known as the” icehouse”.
5) Arignar Anna Zoological Park
Located just 32km away from the main city and spread across 1260 acres this using of the most famous picnic spots in Chennai. One can find here the most exotic animals here like it has over 130 different species. It is basically a paradise for all nature lovers. Other than just looking at animals in the cage one can actually go for a safari here where they can watch deer and lions freely enjoying in nature. The zoo consists of animals and reptiles like Himalayan brown bear, lion, tiger, elephant and Indian cat, king cobra, python, viper any much more. It is the largest zoo in the east and probably one of the best ones.
6) Kolli Hills
Located just a few kilometers away from the city. The kolli hills are a mountain range located in the Namakkal District. One can get amazing views from this range. It is really clean and the natural beauty here is still intact. The literal meaning of Kolli is ”mountains of death” because of its enormous height. This hill is not only a place with natural beauty but it has religious importance too. It consists of the Arappaleshwar Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. One can reach the peak through the twisted and turned roads here.
7) Dakshinachitra Museum
Made authentically to showcase the life of the people of Chennai(Madras ) the Dakshinachitra Museum is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Chennai. This is one of the living-history museums in India. This museum consists of great architecture, arts, crafts, dances, live performances, etc. With over 4,000 artifacts and 1,00,000 paintings, one can literally experience the southern culture here. One should definitely visit this place to experience and to learn about the life of the people here.
