Vaishno Devi is a holy shrine in India. It is one of the most famous and visited the temple of all time. This temple is situated in the Trikuta Hills, 13 km away from Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. It is considered to be the sacred pilgrimage for people all over India. It attracts not only Indian but foreign tourists and visitors as well. The view from the top is just mesmerizing. It has some great sights of scenic beauty which will definitely surprise you. But, to reach these sights or we can say, the main temple is one big journey. It is not at all easy to cover the path all over the top because the temple is located at a very high altitude.


How To Reach

Katra is well equipped with transportation services. People have various means of transport to reach Vaishno Devi.

A. By Railways: There is a railway station in Katra which has proper connectivity with all the major cities and is a very easy yet accessible way of reaching there.
B. By Airways: The nearest airport from Katra is in Jammu. Visitors have to travel more for 48 hours to reach Katra. There are taxis and buses available which will take you to the main location.

After Reaching Vaishno Devi

To reach the temple, visitors have to do a trek of about 13 kms. They can complete it by walking, or take a horse or a pitthu, which is a person who carries people on his back all the way up. Nowadays, some helicopter services have also been made available but still some “yaatris” urge to visit the temple on foot. There are many dhabas that provide pure vegetarian and delicious food for the tourist’s comfort. The food in Katra is primarily without onion and garlic but is indeed among the tastiest cuisines of India. Katra also has a wide variety of Kashmiri handicrafts including the Pashmina shawls and scarfs and other woolen handicrafts. This attracts many shopaholic tourists to shop for something really special and make their trip memorable.


Things To Enjoy In Katra

Apart from the Vaishno Devi Temple, there are many places to visit in Katra. There are many thrilling and exciting activities in which the tourist can indulge themselves.

1. River Rafting: Katra provides the tourist to enjoy adventurous sports like River Rafting. It is great to flow between the chilly water of the river. It is a lifetime experience. It is dangerous and exciting at the same time. It is a nice idea to make your trip memorable and fun.
2. Trekking: Visitors have to trek to visit the main temple of Vaishno Devi. The trek is of 13 kms and is very difficult due to the sloppy terrain. But, it is indeed a nice and challenging experience. This is a long and tiring journey but the landscape from above is all worth it.

When To Visit Vaishno Devi Temple

The weather in Katra is always pleasant. But according to me, the best time to visit the holy shrine is the summer season. It is not at all crowded and you can enjoy a peaceful journey with your loved ones. There is not at all a hot weather instead it is more comfortable in summers to enjoy the cool breeze in Katra.
The least recommended time to visit Katra is during the months of October and November. This is because this is the time when the Yaatra commences. The place gets crowded and there hundreds of people forcing themselves into the temple just for one glance. It is not at all peaceful.
